~~~~Hamburg 1665~~~~
The first scenario is a cinematic so there’s nothing to do but sit back and watch.
The cinematic opens with this phrase, "It is said who finds the fabled See-ath-ahee vision realm will be granted a council with God. Many have sought it. Many have died."
The scene opens on Hamburg and an inter-title tells us the date is 1665, 100 years after the Battle of Malta. The streets of the city are alive with citizens, a few soldiers here and there, wagons, children, street vendors, a fire-breather, policemen, a painter and others, giving a sense of a living, breathing city.
On one of the busy streets stands Helmut and his nephew as they wait for a carriage. Helmut is a wealthy merchant who has hired a mysterious adventurer to lead an expedition to the New World. As the carriage drives up none other than Morgan Black steps from it. “How can that be?” exclaims the nephew, clearly unaware of Morgan’s encounter with the Fountain of Youth. Helmut sends his nephew to the docks as Morgan approaches. The two greet each other and while walking they converse.
We are told Helmut has paid Morgan to sail to the Americas. According to their agreement, Helmut has included three fully manned, armed and provisioned ships for the journey. The bad news is pirates are lurking just beyond the sheltered waters of Germany. The good news is the Emperor has provided three Imperial Navy warships to help run the blockade. The Emperor refuses to aid the venture further, however, on account of he believes the See-ath-ahee is a fool’s tale.
While it is only inferred, we assume Helmut’s motivations for the expedition are the vast wealth the Americas are said to hold. For Morgan, as stated by Helmut, the trip is about finding the See-ath-ahee. “It’s for her, isn’t it?”, is the question Helmut asks Morgan. We later find out Helmut is referring to Elizabeth (Lizzy) Ramsey. Morgan retorts, “I only seek what is the right of every man”. Morgan is referring to the right of every human to grow old and die and be with their loved ones in Heaven: it is later confirmed Lizzie didn’t drink from the Fountain.
Seems for Morgan, eternal youth, or immortality as granted by the Fountain of Youth, have become a curse as he misses Lizzie. Morgan, with paranoid nephew in company, prepare to set sail for the Americas as Helmut asks Morgan, “..if you do meet Him, what shall you say?”. Morgan defiantly replies – and rightly so, “He knows what I want”. The three ships, lead by the command vessle Forever Hope (Ewige Hoffnung) set sail out of harbour.
Before long the squad is confronted by pirates, just as the Imperial Navy ships arrive on the scene. A fierce battle ensues and we see some German ships get destroyed. The cine ends on a cliff hanger as we see flotsam floating in the water.
